In
recent years, gifting books on holidays has become more difficult. It is a
question of what to read but also how – on paper, tablet, e-reader, or phone –
everyone has different opinions on what way to reading. According to some
statistics, 83% of American adults ages 16 – 29 have read a book in the past
year. Some 75% read a print book and 19% read an e-book (Pew Internet, 2012).
The differences between reading on paper and reading on e-book are
accessibility and appearance.

Accessibility is one of the
differences between reading in book paper format or e-book format. Paper books
cost more than e-books because of the way they are created. The e-book’s
production is digital. It is only a fraction of the cost per paper book. On the
other hand, those who prefer e-books often say that it is easier to carry and
they can take a thousand of books in any language available in apps. However,
who thinks about stealing a book? It is safer to carry a paper book without
worrying about someone stealing their electronic device. It is more tempting to
someone stealing an electronic device and sell it, but who steals a book and then
sells it?

Another difference is the
appearance. People who prefer reading on e-books claim that they do not need to
worry about the size, shape, and weight of the book. Although when people read
on an e-book they have a lack of physical sense like turning the pages as they
read and the feeling of seeing the book is almost over. Those who prefer
reading on paper are excited by the smell of a new book newly open. This smell
invites readers to read and to get caught up into each page discovering the
story.
Obviously, people choose what and
how to read, even if it is on paper or e-book. Those who prefer an e-book care
more about the price and how an electronic advice is easier to carry.
Otherwise, people who prefer to read on paper enjoy the smell of a new book
just opened to turn each page. The truth is that reading is a pleasure whether
people read on paper or e-book is their decision. The important factor is to
enjoy this activity.
